Logitech GPW vs G305 Head to head comparision

With the Razer Viper Ultimate Wireless now out on the market, it may be a good time to re-examine the best ambi wireless mice that Logitech has to offer. If you like Logitech products and have your heart set on a wireless offering from them, these will be your two main options. While both do serve ambidextrous users there are some large differences between the two mice so we’ll break down what you need to know to make the right choice.

Size & Shape

Logitech G Pro Wireless

L x W x H

125mm(4.9 in) x  63mm (2.5in) in 40mm (1.6in)

Logitech G305

L x W x H

125mm(4.9 in) x  63mm (2.5in) in 40mm (1.6in)

Shape is the most important consideration when buying a mouse. Both of these mice are ambi shapes but only the G Pro Wireless allows you to place side buttons to both the left and right of the mouse. The shape of the GPW definitely will fill out your hand more as it is longer and has a higher hump. The G305 on the other hand has flatter sides and is shorter in length. If you know your grip style, I’d say that the G Pro Wireless can work with claw and palm grip best. The G305 is more suited to claw or fingertip grip. The GPW comes in at 81grams but the G305 weighs in at up to 96grams with AA batteries installed. You can get that down to 83g with an AAA to AA battery adapter. I higher recommend you get the adapter on Amazon for the G305 as it really does feel heavy without it.

While detractors of the GPW shape will say that it’s a potato, I think the safe-ness of the shape does make it a very versatile mouse for pretty much any play style or even just daily use. The G305 shape is great but would benefit from better weight balance. The mouse feels back heavy no matter what batteries you use and that makes it a slight distraction when playing as it’s something you’re going to have to get used to and play around.

Build Quality and Performance

When it comes to the software and sensors, I’d say the experience is pretty much equal between them as both mice use the same sensor and software. Where the two mice differ however is in the feeling of the buttons and scroll wheel. I’ll say flat out that all of the buttons on the GPW feel better than the G305. They are lighter, feel more satisfying to click and the side buttons are significantly improved compared to the tiny ones on the the G305. I will say however if you do like a stiffer click, then the G305 may be better for you. The feet on the GPW also glide better on most surfaces as they have more surface area. The scroll wheel on the GPW also feels lighter and the scroll wheel button itself feels more satisfying to click-in. The coating on the GPW is also smoother and less grippy than the G305 which may be a plus or a minus depending on your personal preference.

Conclusions

Having used both mice extensively, I can definitely recommend them both to most gamers. If you really really hate charging your mouse, I may give the edge in battery life to the G305 as you can use that things for months on one set of batteries. That being said once you go to a truly wireless mouse with an integrated battery like the GPW, it is so difficult to go back to anything else. I think for everyday use , the GPW is definitely feels like a more premium product.

If you have smaller hands, I can also see a case for choosing the G305 over the GPW as the shape feels more suited for claw and fingertip grip styles. With the G Pro Wireless retailing at $150, it does cost significantly more than the $60 G305. I’d say that for most users , the step up in quality from the G305 will be worth the additional cost. Plus you won’t have to worry about buying batteries at all with the GPW. At the end of day of course, it does come down to personal choice but after using both of these great wireless mice, I really do have to give the edge to the GPW in every category except for value. Luckily both mice can be consistently found under retail so if you wait around for the right sale you can save significantly on the stated retail price.
