It’s been three years since the original release of the Logitech Superlight and being such a tough act to follow Logitech kept most of the package the same. On paper it doesn’t appear worth upgrading for those with the original mouse already but if you look under the hood there are a few key changes.
First off they got rid of the dated microUSB and replaced the charge cable with USB-C finally.
They also shaved off 2 grams , bringing the mouse to just 60g from the original 62g.
Beyond that, the battery life is now rated at 95 hours per charge, up from 70.
A new “Hero 2” sensor is said to offer steadier tracking when quickly lifting or tilting the mouse. the maximum polling rate has jumped from 1,000Hz to 2,000Hz – which is probably the biggest change in terms of the actual technology in the mouse. While not the 8k found on some other offerings, it seems like a reasonable compromise for a wireless connection.
The size and shape remain identical but the new mouse also utilizes the hybrid optical switches that Logitech dub light force. While not a direct upgrade, it does add a heavier click and on-paper should extend the durability and battery life of the mouse.
Whether all this is enough to pop down another $160USD for a mouse that largely feels and looks exactly the same is up to you. Personally I’m a little disappointed that Logitech didn’t make a new shape or even new colours (the mouse is available only in black, white and pink at the moment).
